Neil A. Armstrong


Neil A. Armstrong gained the distinction of being the first man to land on the moon as spacecraft commander for Apollo 11. He received a B.S. degree in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University and an M.S. degree in aerospace engineering from the University of Southern California. For 17 years, he served with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration and its predecessor agency as engineer, test pilot, astronaut and administrator. From 1971 to 1979 he was professor of aerospace engineering at the University of Cincinnati. He became Chairman of AIL Systems in 1989 and Chairman of EDO Corporation in 2000. Neil also served as a Director at RTI International Metals, Inc. until he retired in 2002.
