SAFETY
How does CitationAir pro-actively manage safety?
CitationAir has a defined Safety Management System or what is commonly called in the aviation industry an SMS. The CitationAir SMS is comprised of several main elements, defined below. The intent of an SMS is to pro-actively manage safety risks by providing internal safety management processes that continually evaluate risks and work to enhance safety.
Safety Policy – CitationAir has a defined safety policy that clearly outlines the expectations of all employees regarding their roles and responsibilities concerning safety. The number one value we train our employees on is that “safety is the foundation of everything we do.”
Safety Risk Management – A process that is used to actively access daily risks and verify that they are adequately controlled. One of several elements is our participation in the FAA’s Aviation Safety Action Program or ASAP. ASAP is a safety program in which CitationAir works as a team with the FAA to analyze safety risks and pro-actively evaluate potential safety trends. CitationAir also actively supports several internal, continuous safety improvement platforms such as a senior management safety team that meets monthly to review the company safety profile, as well as employee-driven safety improvement teams that are made up of representatives from each department.
Safety Assurance - Safety assurance is made up of processes that are designed to ensure that internal controls and procedures meet or exceed CitationAir or regulatory requirements. For example, our maintenance department has a dedicated staff that provides quality assurance over all aircraft maintenance procedures. In addition, we conduct scheduled internal safety evaluations of the company as well as safety evaluations of our outside charter vendors.
Safety Culture – Talk to any employee at CitationAir and ask them what is most important to us. The answer will be the safety of our customers and fellow colleagues.
What are the pilots' qualifications and training compared to the industry?
CitationAir has one of the highest standards for pilot qualifications in the aviation industry.
At CitationAir, safety is the foundation of everything we do. All flight crew members are full-time CitationAir employees and are captain qualified and Airline Transport Pilot certified–the highest FAA certification for pilots. Continuous service inspections are performed on all of our aircraft at least every ten days. Recurrent flight training happens every six months. We have no higher priority than safety.
All CitationAir pilots attend Flight Safety International twice yearly for recurrent simulator-based flight training. They must also participate in company recurrent training at our new training facility in Orlando, Florida and through our Learning Management System (LMS) software.
Periodic evaluation checks are conducted for pilots on the line from our Supervisory Airmen throughout the year. We employ one Standards Captain for every five pilots and one Check Airman for every eight Captains in order to ensure strict adherence to company policy and procedure for the safe operation of our aircraft.
